IXUS 90 IS Review
The Canon IXUS 90 IS is smaller than a deck of cards, however still
durable and has plenty of nice features that we see in larger, more
expensive models.
All in all a good little camera. Read the review to find out more about
this Canon compact digital camera.
While there are plenty of digital cameras being offered in all kinds of
attractive styles, people can
never get enough attention of the smaller
models.
Some of them like the Canon IXUS 90 IS are smaller than a
deck of cards.
The only concern of these small cameras is how well they actually
perform.
However, the IXUS 90 is generally seen to be durable
and it has plenty of nice features that are commonly found in the
larger
models.
Camera Design
The Canon IXUS 90 IS is a lot less wider
than commonly seen cameras, but the front part of the camera has the
familiar layout with the lens and flash on the right side.
What is stunning about this small camera
is that it has a large PureColor LCD II
display measuring 3.0 inches diagonally which is very impressive
considering the many larger models only having 2.7" or even 2.5"
displays.
Because this large display takes up most of the back side, the buttons
that are used for operating the device had to be crammed up and the mode
wheel removed.
Instead, a convenient switch is found above for switching camera modes
and the control dial retains at a usable position in the middle
doubling as a sub-mode dial and the other
buttons in between the switch and disc.
Camera Features
There are no major strong points regarding the features of the Canon
IXUS 90 IS, but the model does manage to have a 10-megapixel CDD
imager.
The optical zoom is a bit on the weaker end having only 3x which is
equal to 35-105mm for moderate wide-angle
and telephoto photography, but a lot of
credit should be given to the way it handles lighting
and exposure.
It is powered by the dated DIGIC III Image Processor
that includes decent Face Detection capabilities,
good blur reduction, and red-eye
elimination.
The Face Detection corrects certain
instances where the skin tones are
affected by the lighting by calculating an appropriate white balance
value. Multiple faces are supported and
the sensor keeps these faces in focus.
It works alongside the Motion Detection Technology
which dramatically decreases the blur while keeping the exposure
control optimized. It removes the complexity in setting the ISO
settings manually so images stay clear and sharp for critical moments.
He Optical Image Stabilizer also plays a
role in cancelling out camera shakes.
Extra Features
Canon PIXMA Photo Printer or PictBridge
compatible printer owners can enjoy the Print/Share
button which takes advantage of the USB interface
to print photos directly from the camera.
28 different sizes can be chosen as well as a special print function
that can be applied to recorded movies where multiple stills are
printed on a selected paper size.
The Canon IXUS 90 IS is a small and fun camera to use for multiple
non-professional occasions and the large screen makes it fun to review
shots. Although it is overshadowed by many new models in the PowerShot
lineup, the price is much lower
dipping down to $200.
