Nikon Coolpix S710 Review

Why the Nikon Coolpix S710? This S series models generally focus more on style than on performance, but the new Nikon Coolpix S710 is about to change all of that because it impresses not only with looks, but features as well.

Nikon Coolpix S710

Nikon has been a company that's been popular for its amazing cameras during the early film photography years.

They are currently doing very well with the mid-range SLR cameras like the Nikon D90 and other high performing SLR cameras.

Recently, Nikon has also started to get into the stylish and compact digital camera market under the Coolpix name...and this model is one great camera.

Nikon Coolpix S710 Design

Nikon Coolpix S710
The overall look of the Nikon Coolpix S710 is a lot like the previous series with the familiar Titanium Silver design and two new styles including Urban Black (which is a bit more grayish) and Deep Red. The S710 maintains a very smooth and slim profile which is a plus for people looking for a compact point and shoot camera.

Nikon Coolpix S710 Optics

The Nikon Coolpix S710 is not your average stylish camera because of its 14.5 megapixel sensor and 3.6x zoom as opposed to the standard 3x zoom. In addition, it has a 28-101mm (35mm-equivalent) focal length so you can freely use the zoom feature, yet still manage to get a lot in the picture without sacrificing quality. The high megapixel count is more than enough to get high quality printouts that are large in size.

Nikon Coolpix S710 Technology

The S710 is packed with loads of technology goodies including some impressive face recognition features with the 'Smart Portrait System'. For the benefit of large group shots, the face detection feature supports up to 12 different faces so all of their skin tones remain optimized and balanced with all the other faces and the rest of the picture. The convenient 'Smile Mode' is also present allowing pictures only to be taken when smiling is seen.

Red-eye problems are also automatically fixed before the image is even saved to avoid the need of manually editing it later with a photo editor. Perhaps one of the top features of the S710 is the amazingly high ISO capability that it supports. When there is a very low light scene, you can switch it to ISO 12,800 where you can take extremely clear pictures even without using the flash. It can also be used in conjunction with the S710's superior optical image stabilization features.

Nikon Coolpix S710 Interface

Nikon Coolpix S710
The Nikon S710 pleases with a brilliant 3.0' display making it really easy to sift through pictures and check for defects like blurring without uploading them to the computer. It is coated with an anti-reflective material maintaining sharp displays for outdoor use under the sun.

The display makes up most of the camera with the rest of the controls on the left. While it does offer many nice shooting modes including a convenient auto-scene selector, navigating the interface using the new rotary multi selector takes time to get used to.

Nikon Coolpix S710 :: Price and Bottom Line

For a large screen and large megapixel camera, the $250 to $300 price tag makes it more than reasonable to grab from the shelves.

And remember, this camera aims for style, yet still performs very well.

The interface can be a bit clunky and slow and the video mode doesn't support zooming, but the S710 remains one of the best stylish cameras that have a lot to offer under the hood.

The Nikon Coolpix S710 Review has shown this as the most compact camera. A combination of style and accuracy.
