The Nikon D40 Review

Our Nikon D40 Review is here!

Nikon has now launched the Nikon D40 Digital SLR, a new interchangeable lens camera that combines high performance with the practicality of a surprisingly small and lightweight camera body.

The Nikon D40 d-SLR boasts handling & performance feature enhancements that address the annoyances often found with digital SLR cameras.

The design allows photographers to take amazing images without a need for professional knowledge or years of photography experience.

This model also features a 6.1 MP Nikon DX CCD image sensor and a Nikon Processing Engine also!

These new features work well together to produce impressive image detail & maintain vivid color intensity. Nikon?s exclusive 3D Color Matrix Metering II ensures appropriate exposure control in even the difficult lighting conditions of low light situations. The Nikon D40 uses a 420 pixel sensor which instantly compares the contrast, color and exposure of each image scene to obtain the most appropriate exposure.

Spot metering and center-weighted metering are also very useful tools for photographers who prefer greater control. Also, for greater creative freedom, the D40 offers Program auto, Shutter-priority auto, Aperture-priority auto and Manual modes. The creative menu offers exclusive in camera image editing that provides greater creative freedom without the need for a computer.

While the Auto ISO feature operates from ISO 200 to ISO 1600, the manual setting also enables the photographer to specifically set the ISO to HI 1, for use in very low light situations without the use of a flash. The Nikon D40 is very quick to respond & includes Nikon's Multi CAM530 auto-focus with a 3 area autofocus system and cross-type sensor located in the center.

The Nikon D40 has a vivid view finder with an 0.8x magnification that helps maintain accurate composition when shooting & viewing images on the clear 2.5 inch LCD viewer. Navigation is simplified by the specifically designed color menu that assists users to select the correct settings by showing an example image typical of that particular setting. The D40 is powered by an upgraded high-capacity rechargeable compact lithium-ion battery, which reputedly shoots up to 460 images per single charge!

Arguably one of the most impressive advantages to owning a Nikon digital SLR is the huge variety of interchangeable lenses that are currently available.

The Nikon D40 is fully compatible with all AF-S/AF-I Nikkor lenses, each of which provide the exceptional sharpness, clarity, and accurate autofocus performance that Nikkor is so very well respected for.

All of the above considered, our The Nikon D40 Review concludes that the Nikon D40 digital SLR is a fantastic digital model and a very good bench-mark for other camera manufacturers to compete with during 2008!
