Olympus FE370 Review

The Olympus FE370 is nothing but good news for you if you want to buy an entry level point-and-shoot camera.
This Olympus digital camera has a great price tag and a few tricks up its sleeves!

Every year, digital cameras from various manufacturers are taken out of the limelight and replaced by newer and improved models without bumping up the original price.

However, those very cameras that hit the archives are currently being sold at much lower prices.

This is good news especially for people that want to buy an entry level point-and-shoot camera like the Olympus FE370.

It combines affordability with quality and is all you will need as an entry-level user.

Olympus FE370 Camera Design

Olympus FE370 In addition to the standard black and silver designs that are present in many camera models, the Olympus FE370 comes in pink, red, and blue as well.

The overall look in general has all of the features that are expected in ordinary digital cameras.

The same can be said with the back side of the camera with the standard 2.7" LCD display and all the buttons and dial to navigate the interface and use the camera.

It shares many similarities with the FE-360 which was praised as one of the prettier models in the FE budget lineup because of its slimness.

Olympus FE370 Camera Features

Olympus FE370 In summary, the Olympus FE370 doesn't have any high ambitions and sticks to the basic functions. However, the FE370 manages to go the extra mile by offering a 5x optical zoom rather than the standard 3x zoom that most cameras with basic optics offer.

This was impressive at the time because the FE370 is rather small in design. It is comparable to a 35mm camera with a 36-180mm range.

Professional photographers may not make the most out of the 8-megapixel photos that it can take, but it is still enough for printing posters without resizing.

The TruePic III processor makes use of the Intelligent Auto Mode which is a feature even present in the current Olympus models. This mode automatically sets the right settings, exposure, and focus by first detecting the five scenes that are most commonly used.

Unwanted blur caused by moving subjects can also be fixed with the Dual Image Stabilization feature. This stabilization technology combines the Digital Image Stabilization that adjusts the ISO sensitivity and shutter speeds, with the Mechanical Image Stabilization to remedy the hand-shake problems.

Images are handled faster thanks to this processor and the image quality improved significantly compared to models that do not have the processor.

Face detection is another plus as it supports more faces than average cameras. As long as the group shot contains 16 people or less, everyone in the picture will see photo enhancements after it is taken. This works alongside the "Smile Shot" function which captures the right three moments when subjects are smiling.

Olympus FE370 Extra Features

Olympus FE370 Several scenes and adjustments can be applied to the photo to make every shot look better. Each of the scenes and other options are well explained in the In-Camera Help Guide so bringing the manual isn't necessary for travel purposes.

To avoid confusion, the Perfect Shot Preview allows these different effects ranging from white balance to metering mode to be previewed before the shot is taken to conserve memory.

The Olympus FE370 keeps things simple and small and won't win any awards for design innovation.

Amateur photographers and above might need a slightly more advanced camera, but at this price range, the Olympus FE370 is still a great buy.
