Panasonic Lumix FZ28 Review

The Panasonic Lumix FZ28 can prove to be a worthy alternative pick because it has that DSLR look along with powerful telephoto capabilities and comes fresh at under $500. This is one Panasonic digital camera definitely worth your attention.

Making that transition from a standard point-and-shoot camera to a DSLR camera is a bit because of the high price to pay for doing so, the lengthy learning curve that is needed to master the camera's performance, dealing with the weight, and appreciating its advanced features.

Some amateur photographers may not even be targeting some of the advanced features and simply want a camera with a nice optical zoom.

The Panasonic Lumix FZ28 can prove to be a worthy alternative pick because it has that DSLR look along with powerful telephoto capabilities and comes fresh at under $500.

Camera Design

Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ28K The Panasonic FZ28 has a similar look to many of the DSLR and film cameras available and the small size compared to the larger ones make it great for starters to get used to DSLR handling.

Although small, it is by no means a compact camera that can be placed in a pocket.

Users of the compact zoom cameras will immediately be familiar with the back of the camera where button layouts are similar.

The LCD size is average at 2.7 inches, but the electronic viewfinder can always be used instead. The top set of buttons is similar to common DSLR models as well.

Camera Features

Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ28K Without the limitations of a compact, the Panasonic Lumix FZ28 is focused on power with a powerful 18x zoom that ranges from the 27mm of a wide angle all the way to the 486mm of a telephoto.

Like many of the other modern Lumix cameras, the FZ28 houses the Venus Engine Processor which promises higher detail in imagery along with greater compression.

It is reliable in speed as well with reduced shutter lags clocking at fractions of seconds along with fun continuous shooting modes at 13 frames per second without interruptions under the 3-megapixel setting.

Color quality is improved even when high zoom settings are used and the problem of overlapping pixels is fixed.

Advanced features that are completely absent in any of the compact models include a special image-leveling feature that corrects tilted photos if the shot was taken at an angle to keep the horizon straight. There is also a five-mode flash strobe that is responsible for red-eye correction and slow syncing.

Extra Features

Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ28K The Panasonic FZ28 has HD functionality allowing 1280 x 720 movies to be recorded at the standard 30 frames per second.

Several user-friendly features have been added as well including a face detection system with tracking and Intelligent Auto and Exposure technologies to correctly optimize the photos for people that are not fond of selecting the right scene and want the entire blur to be eliminated.

The Panasonic FZ28 successfully fuses the power of an entry-level DSLR with the ease of a quick point-and-shoot model.

All of the features including the zooming allow so many different kinds of shots to be taken for all sorts of occasions. Not only does it take nice looking photos, but it also does this very quickly and the automatic settings usually produce near-professional results.
