Panasonic
Lumix TZ4 Review
The busy compact digital camera market the
Panasonic Lumix TZ4 tries to set itself apart from the competition with
a strong flexible zoom that delivers quality landscape photography.
With the cost being much less than for an entry-level DSLR, this
Panasonic digital camera has found itself a good niche to play in.
Read more about this camera in this Panasonic Lumix TZ4 review.
When it comes to photography, one of the key elements in getting the
perfect shot is having the right distance
between you and the subject.
This isn't always possible in certain occasions where people or objects
just
cannot get any closer than they could.
With the right lens and good DSLR camera
getting a nice view is as easy as zooming to the right level for a close-up
shot without ruining the quality.
Point-and-shoot cameras,
however, are different because they normally offer 3-5 times zoom
levels and the closest zoom doesn't always look good. The Panasonic
Lumix TZ4 offers a more flexible zoom
and costs much less than even an entry
level DSLR camera.
Camera Design
There are some distinguishing design features
that make the Panasonic TZ4 a bit unique like the
black placeholder on the front for a comfortable grip.
It isn't really designed to a stylish crowd that likes colors as only
black and silver are available.
It is however user-friendly by
completely omitting the standard navigation disc
and replacing it with separate directional buttons.
Instead of the button, viewing the photos requires a flick of a switch
found on the right of the back side so one-handed
operation is still a possibility. There is also a shooting
mode selector wheel found on top. For a high-powered
zoom camera, the TZ4 is amazingly light and slim.
It would have been nicer though if the LCD
screen was bigger as it only measures 2.5 inches.
Camera Features
The Panasonic
Lumix TZ4 introduces the Venus Engine IV
which is a high performing image processor
that uses advanced signal processing to achieve better noise
detection, reduced shutter lags,
and better choices of ISO settings.
Exposure control is superior
in this model with the Intelligent Exposure feature that prevents any
images from getting over-exposed or under-exposed.
The Face Detection feature is pretty
standard, but it does impress by detecting up to 15 faces and supports
face tracking. Red-eye effects are uniquely corrected by utilizing a
preliminary flash to remove the red-eye
followed by the main flash.
When taking any other photos, the MEGA O.I.S.
can be used to prevent blurry outputs due to hand-shakes
and the Intelligent Scene Selector helps
choose the most appropriate shooting mode for the scene that it sees. Auto
focusing is speedy eliminating the need to press the
shutter halfway.
Zooming is also equally
powerful with a 10x zoom having the equivalent of 28-280mm and has the Leica
DC Vario-Elmar brand for great quality even at full zoom.
Extra Features
The Panasonic TZ4 doesn't concentrate much on the
extra's side and that may make the $300 price
tag questionable.
However, the features this camera does have, are done extremely
well and
the camera is more intended for people that want to take full advantage
of the zooming capabilities.
It is also good for taking large group shots and excels at landscaping
photography because of its advanced processor. The automatic features
also make it newbie friendly putting this fast performer in a good spot
between the competition.
