The Panasonic Lumix TZ5 is one of the
advanced models of a Panasonic Lumix lineup that is already pretty
impressive.
It is improved upon the TZ3 version with higher megapixel count and
additional new features that help it keep up with the competition.

model.
Panasonic has been very successful with the TZ series of their
Lumix lineup because all of their cameras boast a fairly
high zoom at 10x optical zoom which is already greater than many of the
standard models and they are all compact with the later models not
having folded optics.
The Panasonic
Lumix TZ5 is one of the advanced models of the lineup that
greatly improves an already impressive Panasonic TZ3 model by offering
a higher megapixel count and adding some
modern features to keep up with the competition.
Camera Design
The Panasonic TZ5 looks a lot like the Panasonic TZ4 in practically
every aspect, but the black color is a bit darker.
It has that same comfortable placeholder where the fingers can rest
when holding the camera and the large lens
takes up most of the right side.
It is fairly smaller than other ultra-zoom
cameras, but the back side has its differences. The screen
surpasses the TZ4 weakness measuring 3.0 inches and
perfectly covers that left side.
Unlike other cameras with 3.0 inch screens, the resolution is greater
having 460,000 pixels for sharper preview images. The button placements
are no different and the switch to activate the view mode remains. The shooting
mode wheel may require two-hand operation,
but it shouldn't be used that much because of its automatic
features.
Camera Features
The Panasonic
Lumix TZ5 packs a lot more punch than previous models and is
considered to be the bigger brother of the TZ4 that launched alongside
it.
Like the TZ4, the TZ5 uses a new Venus Engine IV
processor which is considered a huge refinement that corrects noise a
lot better in addition to reducing shutter lags
and efficiently balances the exposure of
images so they look balanced.
One of the impressive features is the way it detects the scene to
greatly simplify the shooting process. Additional scene
modes are included for special occasions like the Candle
Light mode which is actually a preset that applies ISO
400 at max while lowering the shutter
speed and enlarging the aperture.
To ensure that the image looks best, image stabilization
prevents the image from getting blurry. The only downside is the lack
of a manual mode.
Some modes can be applied to any given seen like the Multi
Aspect mode photographers that cannot or do not have
time to select the aspect ratio.
After each shot, three copies are generated each with different aspect
ratios so a choice can be made. It also has a High-Speed
Burst mode for it to shoot continuously at 6 fps. Face
Detection works similarly to the TZ4 allowing 15 faces
to be detected.
Extra Features
Unlike the TS4, some extra features are thrown into the mix including
the E-Zoom which quickly transitions a
maximum zoom to a wide angle zoom with
the press of a button.
High definition video
recording is also possible at 30 frames per second although it requires
a DMW-HDC2 do watch them on an HDTV
display.
The Panasonic TZ5 still boasts the same friendly interface that
involves the dial and finally adds to the significant features that the
older TS3 and lower-end TS4 lack.
