The Pentax K10D digital SLR is Pentax' new flagship camera featuring 10.2 mega-pixels & a myriad of advanced features including a new 'Shake Reduction' control & a weather sealed body.

Pentax has launched the K1OD! It’s a top of the range 10.2MP Digital SLR with a bunch of advanced features, including the Pentax Shake Reduction system and a brand new high-performance imaging engine. The innovative Pentax-original Shake Reduction System works by shifting the position of the CCD vertically and horizontally at a high speed using magnetic force, helping to prevent the image from annoying blur.

The speed is determined by the amount of camera shake detected by a built- sensor. Pentax claim it will offer an outstanding compensation effect equivalent 2 to 4 shutter speed steps and will work with almost all existing Pentax interchangeable lenses. Designed to produce top quality images with increased responsiveness for the advanced enthusiasts, the Pentax K10D D-SLR has several new innovations for image capturing & functionality. Pentax has developed a new 'Shake Reduction' system that effectively has a 2-4 stop increase for blur-less and sharp images, even under the often difficult conditions of macro photography & telephoto photography, or simply for a low light setting without the use of a flash.

A new Pentax PRIME Real Image Engine, exclusive to Pentax digital SLR's to create balanced and accurate images. To meet the performance requirement of the 10.0 Mega-pixel data, they have also incorporated an improved performance 22 bit AD converter which transfers images of accurate color tones & gradation from the cameras CCD to the image engine.

'Dust Removal' system incorporating the Pentax 'Special Protection' coating which keeps the CCD dust and dirt free. This also has a 'shift mechanism' which shakes particles of dust from the CCD.
Durable weather sealed body construction that features over 60 seals on the camera body. This primarily allows users to continue to shoot in damp or dusty surroundings.
A newly developed A/D converter, designed to convert large volumes of data accurately and swiftly, also features in the pentax K1OD, which boasts the highest resolving power among all existing digital camera's - it's 22-bit rather than 12. This A/D converter works via the cameras new imaging engine, which has been designed to induce well-balanced, realistic-looking images.

The Pentax K1OD features a great dust removal system to keep the CCD surface clean, which works by a combination of a special coating to the CCD and a high-speed shake-off system similar to that found in the Sony Alpha and the new 400D. After the dust is shaken from the CCD, it should fall on to an adhesive sheet positioned at the bottom of the SR unit so it can't return to the CCD surface.

As well as a bright, clear viewfinder, a 2.5-inch LCD, 140-degree view and an 11 point wide AF system, users of the camera will be treated to a new exposure system designed for accurate reproduction of creative photography. Pentax says the K1OD's body is water-resistant and have applied special seals to 72 different parts of the camera, which is great for those who enjoy landscape photography, or outdoor photography where the camera may become damp or splashed.
