Pentax
K20 Review
Pentax began their bid to
break into the semi professional but reasonably priced digital camera
field with the K10D. It was utterly amazing how many features they
squeezed into the camera for a good price. Not surprisingly, the
company decided to build on their success and offer the Pentax
K20
camera.
Features
- 14.6-megapixel resolution
- Poster-sized prints
- 2.7-inch LCD display
- Dust-proof
- water-resistant
- comprehensive Dust Removal system
- Live View function
- Capture images to SD/SDHC cards
- X synch port for studio shots
Images
With a 14.6 megapixel camera you will not
only be able to shoot images capable of being converted to poster size
but you will also get an image quality generally reserved for those
taken on 35mm film.
Have you ever taken what you just knew was the perfect shot, only to
end up with a blurry distorted image due to camera shake?
The Pentax
K20
comes equipped with proprietary anti camera shake
technology, which will enhance images taken under a telephoto lens, low
light, extended exposure and night shooting.
Pentax Lenses
One thing that puts this camera head and shoulders above the
competition is the fact that every Pentax lens
ever made will fit it. You will not find another camera on the market
that can make that claim. How refreshing to be able to purchase a brand
new camera and know instantly that any of your expensive lenses will
fit perfectly!
Battery
You will find the battery in the base of the handgrip, securely held
behind a weatherproof twist tab. This
battery is the same lithium ion rechargeable
used in the K10D. It has a decent life between charging, around
500 exposures before you will need to change the
battery.
Speed
The Pentax K20 offers you the ability to shoot a moving
target, provided it is not moving too quickly or you do
not mind lowering the image quality.
At three frames per
second this camera is definitely not the fastest kid on
the block, however unless you are shooting sporting events this should
not be a huge problem.
Of course, if you do not mind lower resolution
you can shoot at 20 fps.
Conclusion
The Pentax K20 is an excellent camera, but it is only slightly better
than the K10D. There are some significant improvements
not the least of which is the 14.6 megapixel resolution. Nevertheless,
if you already have the Pentax K10D you will not likely need to upgrade
to this later version.
It is important to note that the K20 ships with default settings that
are less than optimal.
Before making your final call on this camera, if
you choose to purchase it, be sure you check settings
and experiment.
The images this camera can take are extremely good, if you try this
first.
