Samsung I8 ReviewRedesigning the traditional look of the camera without eliminating its vital functions can be difficult and some of the existing models failed to cater to power users. The Samsung Digimax I8 successfully simplifies the camera while adding both style and functionality to the mix. 
Samsung Digimax I8 Camera DesignThe front end of the Samsung Digimax I8 is very smooth and clean with no moving parts making it nice to carry around in the pocket without fear of pressing the power button by accident.The lens rests on the upper right corner with the flash just left of it. Compared to the older i85 model, the i8 is a little bit smaller and the screen size is reduced to 2.7 inches. The top end is very nicely designed with a large shutter button and the back has several buttons to play around with without the mode dial. 
Samsung Digimax I8 Camera FeaturesThe Samsung I8 uses a high resolution sensor capable of taking up to 8.2 megapixel photos. It is equipped with a 3x optical zoom lens and is equivalent to the 35mm focal length.Many of the features take place right after the photo is taken like the Auto Contrast Balance and Auto Exposure Bracketing functions. Both of these technologies work together by giving dark areas the proper contrast and brightness while toning down the bright levels. Adjustments are further made based on the selected exposure setting to get the right lighting of the image after each shot. The white balance adjustments are also automatically applied based on the color temperature and light source. Other features include the Digital Image Stabilization which fixes bad photos caused by shaky hands and the face detection function which does better than some other slim models by analyzing each face and as long as there are 9 or less in the group and then correcting the exposure of each face. Images can be further improved by setting the sharpness at 5 different levels along with fine-tuning of the contrast and saturation to make the picture clearer and more vivid. Beginners can enjoy 7 special effects and 14 scene modes so they do not have to play around with the manual adjustments. 
Samsung Digimax I8 Extra FeaturesThe Samsung Digimax I8 comes with plenty of extras including the ability to play mp3 files when headphones are plugged in. This can be done while taking photographs or reviewing pictures in SRS Wow HD SRS quality.It also includes a built-in text viewer that can read eBooks from the memory card and can be used alongside the mp3 player. Movies can be viewed in the 230K LCD display as well although they must be converted using the included converter tool which reduces the file size. The movie recording features are better than a lot of the cameras with MPEG-4 support at SVGA resolutions. It would have been nice if the screen was retained at 3 inches and if it the lens was a little bit wider to take better group shots, but all of the other features rolled up into a slim camera make this a great camera to get especially for the ladies.
