Sony Cybershot W300 Review

The Sony Cybershot W300 is part of the Sony Cybershot range of digital cameras. In this range a number of compact digital cameras are released each year. Check out this Cybershot W300 review to find out why this Sony digital camera is still a popular choice.

Sony is widely known for the quality of their digital products that try to extend their reach when competitors start to get near.

This also applies to the Cybershot cameras that Sony continues to roll out every year and some of them have some lasting power like the Sony Cybershot W300 which continues to sit at the top of the W series in megapixel count even though 6 other cameras in the series were introduced the following year.

Camera Design

Sony W300 Like other Sony products, the Sony W300 looks gorgeous in black and the design ends up being thin, rounded on the edges and simple.

In every aspect, the Cybershot design tradition is continued and the layout of the controls on the back should be familiar to most digital camera users with a wheel on top and a navigation disc on the bottom.

Something that isn't often seen in compact digital cameras is the optical viewfinder along with a fairly large 2.7-inch display. For a compact camera that was released in mid-2008, the W300 still looks pretty modern and stylish and since the body is made of Titanium, it is clearly made to last a long while.

Camera Features

Sony-W300 The Sony Cybershot W300 offers a slightly higher megapixel count than other cameras of the same size. It is not just 13.6 megapixels, but it has the HAD (Hole Accumulated Diode) aspect which helps boost the sensitivity while reducing noise.

The lens also makes a name for itself as it has the Carl Zeiss label, but the 3x optical zoom is a bit on the weak side.

Several other technologies are blended in and handle photos better than other compacts. Blur is handled very well as it uses a Double Anti-Blur solution which uses high ISO sensitivity. This fixes the problem of moving subjects and shaky hands while taking the photo.

Shaky hands are also fixed with the Super SteadyShot optical image stabilization which makes use of a gyro sensor to stabilize the lens.

Face detection features are basic recognizing up to 8 faces, but the enhancements that are applied make the group and portrait shots a lot livelier. Red-eyes are corrected automatically and the Smile Shutter effectively captures smiles, laughs and grins.

Extra Features

cybershotw300 An Easy Shooting Mode is provided for first-time users to get used to the features by providing on-screen information.

Auto Photo Modes make it even more convenient as settings do not need to be fine-tuned for general purposes.

The EXTRA High-Speed Burst Mode adds to the excitement by allowing shots to be made continuously at 5 frames per section.

Additional freedom is granted with the 9-Point Auto focus for creative shots to be made. Although HD video recording is absent, the high resolution photos can still be viewed in an HDTV and transferring is simple with the optional output adapter.

The Sony W300 has all of the ingredients of a powerful camera that is approachable for people that want simplistic fun in taking photos regardless of the occasion. It squeezes in lots of fun features in a slim design and is a great choice if zoom functionality isn't a major concern.
