A
Guide To Great Underwater
Digital Photography
Allure of Underwater Digital Photography
Digital cameras have turned
amateur shutterbugs into some
great photographers.
You don't have to go to
school to learn how to
take pictures unless you want to open a business and creating a
portfolio is always impressive.
When somebody shows you
their vacation
pictures of a beach getaway or island retreat, they are mostly still
photos of friends or local attractions.
You might even get a treat
and
see some beautiful pictures of the lush surroundings, but what if you
could see some pictures that were taken underwater?
Where Do You Start Your Underwater Digital
Photography?
First, you will need a
digital camera that has an underwater housing
so you don't ruin it by submerging it. You can shop around for a
housing based on your camera. There are some cameras that are designed
for underwater picture taking, you can use your digital camera, but if
it doesn't have wide angle lenses or macro
lenses you will need to get close to your subject in order to capture
it fully.
Lighting is important
because you will have to close the gap
between you and the marine life you are trying to capture. Light is
much denser below the surface of the ocean.
Impress your Friends with Underwater Digital
Photography
Taking an underwater
picture captures a moment that everyone
who views your photos will want to know how you did it so they can try
it for themselves. One thing that makes underwater photos so unique is
the colors.
Standard colors that our
eyes
know about are what we see above ground due to the lighting. Underwater
pictures require light that is more direct so the object can be easily
identified.
Snapping a picture of
marine life in their habitat requires
a still hand and a desire to have a photo that nobody else does.
Practice with Underwater Digital Photography
If you want to take an
underwater picture, its best to practice so you can understand how dense
the light is below the water compared to how full it is above. If you
are underwater and you look up, the water looks blue because of the
sky's light.
Deeper in the ocean, the
light is dense and having a flash
that can pull the object into the forefront is paramount. Taking
pictures underwater is mostly trial and error, understanding
how your camera works with the limited light will help
you when you want to take more pictures. Also, you will need to realize
that you are in a different environment and you will need to move with
your subjects.
Editing for Maximum Vibrancy.
Since you are taking
digital pictures, your camera is probably set up with an edit feature
or there is software that will allow you remove parts of the picture so
you can capture the beauty.
The best thing about underwater digital photography is having fun while
doing it!
You can review your pictures later and see where the best
shots were taken.
You can also return to that spot and practice more so you can get the best results.
